I am high functioning with an effective “mask” I developed to hide my condition(s). This developed because (among other things) I have iatrophobia - a fear of doctors and hospitals. My “mask” has a lot to do with my childhood; I felt I needed to keep secrets both because my sexual abuser of 10+ years told me to, and because it became my go to coping mechanism. The easiest way to deal with something is to not deal with it, right?
