When I went to see the endocrinologist, he weighed me, looked at my hairline, and asked why I was there. I started to say, “Well, I thought I might have PCOS because—” and he stopped me and said, “You DO have PCOS. I can tell just by looking at you.” He went on to explain that my “normal" hormone levels were actually outside of normal levels — just not to a degree that would indicate, say, cancer. The diagnosis was then confirmed with a pelvic ultrasound that revealed the classic string of pearls cyst pattern on my ovaries.
