Four years ago, when I worked in Madras, I used to visit my parents once or twice a month. The bus travel from Madras to Tirunelveli would span for roughly about 12 hours. There were two kinds of buses. The public buses which were old fashioned, rugged, ill-maintained, and slow cost about INR 400, if my memory serves me well.
