When ready, the OOD shifts his watch to an equally qualified officer below decks in the ship's control room, and then works with the lookout to rig the bridge for dive and head below decks. Once down from the bridge, the off-going OOD reports to the control room that the bridge is rigged for dive, and that he/she was the last one down from the bridge. Only then, once the ship is fully rigged for dive, does the boat submerge.
