I wouldn’t expect most people to know curds, I had never heard of it until I started baking pretty regularly. Yes, it is usually, although you can find ones sweetened naturally. It’s amazing on toast, also with peanut butter in place of jelly. Also, we have other fruit butter like pear or pumpkin. But Apple is the most common. I’ve never heard of conserves (unless we are in a drought) or chutney. Well, I have heard chutney I just didn’t know it was a jam. I thought it was charcoal! What else would jelly come in? The only other way I’ve seen is packets at a restaurant. I’m in the US.
